"Baba Watoto" is a kiswahili compound noun meaning Farther of the Children.Establishment of Baba Watoto Centres in 2008 was based on the commitment to social justice, mr Mgunga Mwa Mnyenyelwa has. Mr Mgunga is also the founder of a well known theatre organisation in East Africa, Parapanda Theatre Lab. The project's goal is to empower children and youth in the impoverished areas to overcome their daily challenges that are related to health and unemployment that have read to a serious challenge of poverty.
The project, which later was handled over to Parapanda Theatre Lab, operates in Dar es es salaam suburb populated with people of low income and Iringa region,about 600km from Dar es salaa in the remore village.The extension to Iringa region is a new development in 2010.
