Baba Watoto Centre was established in 2006 by Mgunga Mwa Mnyenyelwa the founder and director of Parapanda Theatre Lab. Mr Mgunga had lived in Mburahati kwa Jongo,the impoverished area of Makurumla Ward in Kinondoni Municipality. The founder decided to stay there as part of his participatory reseach on THE CULTURE OF POVERTY of which his poems have been writing about.
Experiencing and the face-to face poverty at the area, inspired Mgunga to start the centre. For him,this was the best way of helping young people who everyday knoked Mgunga's door for support. The requests ranged from some pens to buy food to footbals for the teams.
Supporting the centre was not easy as it needed a lot of money to keep the spaceand programs. More children joined the centre and it had 200 dailly attendance.
It was suggested that the centre be handled to Parapanda which had the same vision on youth.
